Veedon Fleece  Update June 2020

Due to Veedon Fleece concentration on its small workshops accommodating our weavers close by, we have been able to continue producing carpets throughout the current emergency.

There have been some delays in external activities especially in being able to transport our finished carpets to the washing plant and then back to our workshops for final finishing.  Some of the transport restrictions have now been lifted in Kathmandu and permits for movement are starting to ease which leaves us in the happy position of being able to inform our clients that 70% of our order book is now complete and in the final phases of either washing or finishing, awaiting onward despatch to the airport, customs clearance and the resumption of cargo flights to our onward destinations.

We are informed that airfreight will be operating on a more reliable basis during the second half of July and we are currently in ongoing discussions with our freight forwarders to try and get ahead of any backlog that there may be with international airfreight leaving the country.

We thank all of our clients for their patience and are proud to report this advanced position with many of our orders being completed ahead of schedule.   This, as you can imagine has been no small feat in these uncertain times.

Wishing all of our clients every success as things start to regain positive energy.

Founder Adam Gilchrist spent five years researching and defining the right place and people to oversee his ethically run carpet looms in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal.

As a custom weaving house creating purely bespoke hand knotted rugs and carpets in their own workshops in Nepal, Adam and Clare Gilchrist started the business 27 years ago somewhat trailblazing their way, but with two initial guiding principles when they set up their own looms; firstly to stop the use of child labour within the industry and secondly to change the industry practice by making unique carpets of a superior quality that would last for generations.

Veedon Fleece still stands by its original objectives, creating purely bespoke carpets and rugs on a worldwide basis to an international clientele.

Now in 2020 and during this interesting period in our lives,  Veedon Fleece have been looking back at their archive,  recalling the hundreds of commissions they have created over the years. They remember with great fondness the 100 colour sample square which at the very foundation of their business, were the only colours available.   Only 100 colours and now we all have hundreds to choose from.  Life was once much simpler!

We continue to take enquiries and will happily forward samples and quotations on request.

There are a small number of rugs immediately available on our website
